Watch time: 2 min | Tony’s Career Curveballs
Years later, another moment changed everything. I took a speech class to impress a girl (true story). I spent most of my time trying to entertain her—until one day, my teacher, Mr. Cobb, pulled me aside.
“There’s something about you,” he said. “You have a way of reaching people, of making them feel something. You care more than most.”
I was stunned. Then he handed me a speech called “The Will to Win” and told me to memorize it for a regional competition. That speech hit me like a lightning bolt. It was about overcoming obstacles, refusing to give up, and answering a deeper calling. It was my story.
I gave the speech. I won the competition. And in that moment, I saw a new path—one where I could use my voice to inspire and empower others.
Be the person who sees not just who you are, but who you can become.
That’s what Mr. Cobb did for me. He saw beyond the kid cracking jokes in class and recognized something deeper. And because of that, I saw it too.
The road to my career has been anything but linear. It’s been full of pivots, curveballs, and moments that felt like failure—but these moments were actually the foundation of something greater. Even in business, when COVID-19 forced us to shut down live events, what seemed like a massive setback became a breakthrough. We adapted, pivoted, and created virtual events that now reach more people than ever before.
So, if life is throwing you a curveball, ask yourself: Is this the end? Or is it an opening—an invitation to shift, grow, and move toward a future you haven’t even imagined yet?
God’s delays are not God’s denials.
Because sometimes, the greatest things in life come from the moments that didn’t go as planned.
Here’s to your curveballs,
